Abomination! 17-Year Old Beats Grandmother To Coma, Grandma Saved By Doctors

Oma ga o, this is nothing but an abomination. A 17-year-old secondary school dropout, Obus Felix, allegedly beat his 65-year-old grandmother, Alice Onome, to a state unconsciousness during a disagreement over a missing N20,000.

The incident, according to witnesses, occurred around 12.30pm in the Abraka community of Delta State.

It was reliably gathered that earlier on Wednesday, Onome had accused her grandson of stealing the sum of N20,000, a development which was said to have irked the 17-year-old.

An eyewitness, who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity, said Onome had returned from the farm and discovered that the firewood and N20,000 she set aside for the preparation of her grandchild’s thanksgiving ceremony were missing.

While searching for the lost items, Onome reportedly rained curses on whoever made away with her money. It was gathered that the suspect walked in at that point in a state of drunkenness and anger.

FG Freezes Jonathan’s Associates’ Accounts

The anti-corruption campaign of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration appears to have taken a bigger bite as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has secretly frozen the bank accounts of former President Goodluck Jonathan’s associates, Sunday Punch reports.

One of our correspondents learnt that the move by the anti-graft agency was aimed at scuttling the tranfer of the alleged looted funds from the accounts for other reasons.

A member of a key transition committee of the All Progressives Congress, who spoke to one of our correspondents on condition of anonymity, on Friday, said the need had become necessary in view of the magnitude of the alleged theft of public resources by the affected persons.

The APC chieftain spoke on the heels of the condemnation of President Buhari’s ongoing probe of the last administration of the Peoples Democratic Party and recovery of funds looted by public officials.

Airport Cleaner Arrested With N53m At Lagos Airport

The aviation security personnel of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria have arrested an airport cleaner with the sum of $271,135 (about N53m) at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos. 

The suspect, Mr. Tijani Owolabi, a worker with one of the cleaning contractors at the airport, was arrested while trying to carry the huge sum of money through the screening point.

A statement by FAAN said, some of the foreign currency was found on Owolabi while the rest was recovered from the sanitary bucket he was holding while trying to pass through screening machine. The statement added that the agency suspected that Owolabi was conveying the currency to an accomplice at the airside of the airport.

President Buhari And Amaechi In A Closed Door Meeting In Aso Rock

Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday met with ex Rivers State governor, Chibuike Ameachi, behind closed doors, NewsDay reports.

Ameachi arrived the presidential villa at 1:42p.m. and walked straight to the President’s Office where the meeting was held.

The meeting lasted for about an hour. Nigerians who may not have done their enrollment for the National ID card program will soon be having the opportunity to do so on their Smartphones.

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) announced that it had concluded plans to provide pre-enrollment services on smartphones.

This is contained in a statement signed by NIMC General Manager on Corporate Communications Abdulahamid Umar. According to the statement, the step was taken to ease the sign-up process for Nigerians.

“This development will ensure that citizens can start their enrollment using their smart phones, a development that would ensure that in the next couple of months, citizens, of all ages, would have completed their demographic enrollment before they proceed to NIMC enrollment centers for their biometric data capture to complete their enrollment,” the statement said.

It is believed that the initiative will help to decongest the enrollment centers and also ensure that citizens enroll at their convenience before the deadline.

Nobody Can Probe Me — Amaechi

For Governor of Rivers State, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, says no anti-corruption agency in the country can probe him.

Recall that Amaechi along with some other former governors: Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano); Sullivan Chime (Enugu); Babatunde Fashola (Lagos); Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom); Sule Lamido (Jigawa); Shehu Shema (Katsina) and Martin Elechi of Ebonyi State were being probed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and related offences Commission.

However, Chief Tony Okocha, a former aide to Amaechi, told one of said that the ex-governor was not afraid of ICPC or the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission as long as the probe was not a witch-hunt.

Okocha, however, recalled that the ICPC and the EFCC had not vacated a court order stopping any of them from investigating any Rivers Government official and as such could not probe him.

Nigerian Lawyer Arrested For Molesting 9 Old Girl Inside Court

A Lagos-based legal practitioner, Christopher Uzoamaka, aka Americana, has been re-arraigned before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, western Nigeria, for allegedly fingering the private part and anus of a 9-year-old girl inside Court 4, Tinubu Magistrates’ Court, without her consent.

The incident, according to the police, occurred on 12 August, 2015 when the grandmother of the victim came to the court to attend to her civil case pending in the court.

The accused was alleged to have lured the victim to an alley inside the court to allegedly commit the offence. The cry of the victim, according to investigation, attracted the grandmother who reportedly asked her daughter what happened to her.

The victim, it was alleged, told her mother that the accused fingered her private part and anus inside the court which caused her pains.

President Buhari And VP Osinbajo Finally Declares Their Assets Publicly

Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari and his Vice, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, have finally made a public declaration of their assets.

According to a statement by the Senior Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President, Mr Garba Shehu “Prior to being sworn in on May 29, President Buhari had less than N30 million to his name.

He also had only one bank account, with the Union Bank,” While “the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo (SAN), who had been a successful lawyer before his foray into politics declared a bank balance of about N94 million and 900,000 United States Dollars in his bank accounts” The statement also added that President Buhari has no foreign account, no factory and no enterprises. He also has no registered company and no oil wells

“As soon as the CCB is through with the process, the documents will be released to the Nigerian public and people can see for themselves,” Mr Shehu said.

Good News! HIV Prevention Drug Finally Out

A drug to prevent people who are at risk of HIV from being infected is on the way. According to TIME magazine, growing evidence showed that the drug, PrEP, serves as an effective method of curbing the spread of the HIV virus.

More than 650 people who took the drug during a 32-month period, were evaluated by researchers. Nearly all of the participants were men who have sex with men. Users were more likely than non-users to report that they had multiple sex partners.

Participants developed a number of different sexually transmitted diseases but remained free of HIV, during the study.
